Vice Sheet - March 2001 by Sallie Banko, Region 2 RVC |
It’s official...
I’ve recently run across the question: "What are your thoughts on *how* an RVC could "help those with deficient calendars"?" One answer given was: "Suggest types of events, guidelines on quantity of events per 100 members, effective use of area coordinators are just a few." On my end, I will look though the newsletters I receive and pass on interesting and different events that may be something worth trying in your own local group. Something other than the regulars such as Games Night, Friday night dinner, fold, staple and mutilate (FSM) and ExComm meetings. Or maybe a new twist to an old favorite.
Meanwhile, I’ve some homework for all of you. What are YOUR thoughts on how an RVC could help those with deficient calendars? Or better yet, what can YOU offer to help those with deficient calendars? Email me
(sbanko@compuserve.com
or rvc2@us.mensa.org ) with all your thoughts and suggestions. I’m sure there are lots of them out there!
So for my first suggestion: give a new twist to an old idea. Give the event a catchy title or description. YAMs in MWM catches my eye What is YAM? Made you look didn’t they? (YAM stands for Young Active Mensans - or whatever other adjective they care to put in there). Any Game but what’s on TV - is both descriptive and different (Lehigh Pocono). And my favorite; POETS (P*** On Everything, Tomorrow’s Saturday) from Tidewater.
Since no one is running against me, and we’re past the March 1 deadline, I’ve been notified that I will be RVC of Region 2 for the next AMC go-around. Face it; you’re stuck with me for the next two years! I would like to take a moment to urge everyone to vote in the upcoming election even if the RVC position for the region is a "done deal". Many of the national level positions are up for grabs, and those who take these offices will have just as much impact on the region/local group/individual member as your RVC does. Check with your LocSec and/or Editor for information on those running, as I’m sure information was (or will be) distributed to these individuals by most of the candidates. Talk to people who have worked with the candidates. Contact the candidates themselves to ask questions. Check out any existing websites. Then vote!
