I just got back from the AMC meeting and here are some of the highlights:
- Mensa is in the process of arranging a member benefit with Office Max for copying discounts. Keep an eye out for details on this.
- We have a new Bulletin editor - a big welcome to Dick Hodgson!
- The Rule Governing the Conduct of Hearings was revised and the office of Advocate was created. The Advocate will have the responsibility of bringing charges to the hearings committee either independently or at the request of any member of Mensa.
- The budget was passed. This is the fourth year in a five year plan, and the first to be initially presented with a negative balance. This past fiscal year we are looking at a final total of about $80,000 above costs.
- Virginia's bid for hosting an AMC meeting next March was accepted. Also, New Orleans bid for the AG in 2005 was conditionally accepted, pending a hotel contract.
Please note that these are just a few of the items from the meeting. The mini-minutes will have a more complete listing, and the full minutes will have details. If you would like more information on any of this, please contact me. And speaking of contacts....Please take a moment and update your address books:

Meanwhile, back in the region, things are happening! After the gavel comes down on the business meeting in July, Ed Gordon will be the new RVC for Region 2. If you see him at any of the gatherings or events walk on over and introduce yourself. Or give him a call. I found it much easier representing the region when I knew the faces behind the names - and the more names I knew, the more qualified I felt.
I would also like the region to know that I have presented Dr. Sheila Gross with a Regional Service Award for her continued willingness to take on the role of Regional Scholarship Chairman. Her contribution has been greatly appreciated! I have never had to worry about the program, as she always had things very much under control. My thanks to her for all that she has done these many years. Wear the pin with pride Sheila, for you most definitely deserve it! I can only hope that Mensa continues to benefit from your volunteered time, effort and expertise.
On a final note, the membership count for the year was 51208, which is a 2.8% increase over last year. Mensa is growing!
