RVC2 - My Two Bits - November 2004
by Ed Gordon, RVC Region 2

It has been a very informative month. I have been talking with the AMC (American Mensa Committee) and local members have learned some new information. I will be sharing my thoughts with you all in the next few months.

In the meantime, I am still very much interested in the members sharing their opinions with me. To this end, I have created a Yahoo Group called AML-Region2 on Yahoo. Anyone in Region 2 is welcome to subscribe and let me know his or her feelings on events within Mensa. To encourage your input, I have started putting polls on the group. Anyone who is familiar with Yahoo Groups and their polls knows how effective they can be. To subscribe to the group, send an email to: AML-Region2-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. If you need any help learning how to use Yahoo, I or anyone else would be more then happy to get you on board.

We just finished up at the AMC Meeting in Portland, Oregon. I must confess that I had a good time, for the Portland Oregon Chamber of Commerce is very interested in hosting an Annual Gathering, and they made sure that we knew the positive information on their city in order to get us to plan an event there. In addition, we had a Mensa planning day on Friday, and came out with some very valuable thoughts for how the AMC will function for the next year, and the recommendations that we will give to the officers for the next term. At the AMC Meeting on Saturday, we discussed several controversial items, including SIG membership, food preparation and InterLoc. The specifics can be found on the Mini-Minutes that have been disseminated, and can be found in several of your newsletters. The AMC Secretary’s writing style is very easy to read, but if you require more explanation or want to have further discussion, I am available. As the agenda for the next meeting, in December in Orlando, shapes up, I will be posting polls on the items on the weblist to allow you to give me your input.

The Regional Gatherings on the schedule are:  Delaware Valley’s “Mensans in Black”– October 15-17 and Tidewater’s “My Favorite Mensan” – November 12-14. The Winter Solstice Regional Gathering will be taking place in Lancaster PA on December 17-19, and Snowball XXXI, “Nautical but Nice” for Central New Jersey for the first weekend in March, the 4th through the 6th.

Well, it is a short column this month. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
