Did you ever have one of those days when you felt like you were a button,
and the rest of the world was one huge thumb? Well, I have had one of those
months, so be patient. We are well into 2004 by now, and much has changed.
For starters, if you need to get in touch with me, I have gotten a post office
box: PO Box 771, Ashburn, VA 20146; phone has changed to 703-723-3746 and in
response to several requests; I have a fax at 703-723-3946.
On the RG front, Hearts Afire will have taken place by this point. From the
rumors that are going around, we had an incredible time. March is a busy month
for the Region, for the Snowball RG is taking place in Piscataway NJ and on the
third weekend; Thomas Jefferson is having theirs in Charlottesville. Your humble
RVC will be available at both events to discuss any issues that are important to
you as a member of the region. The AMC meeting will be taking place in Charlottesville,
so you will see several individuals, including yours truly, racing out of a meeting
room, grabbing a cup of coffee, and racing back in. We adjourn during the wee small
hours, and you should be able to find the AMC members in the hospitality suite at the
end of the evenings. Barboursville Winery informed me that they would be open for
tasting sessions at the time, so if anyone wants to join me while I sneak out to go
there, let me know. With some maneuvering, two more RGs have been approved; PowOwl
CaMp by Maryland in August, and Liberty Bell by Delaware Valley in October.
There have been changes in the planning for the Leadership Development Workshop; it
will now be taking place on May 8 in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Marc Lederman has
resigned as LDW Coordinator, so will be able to concentrate on his efforts for the
Publication Recognition Program, as it is that time. Please submit your newsletter
and website information to him in a timely manner, for he has a lot of work to do,
and we would like to see recognition come to those in the region that deserve it.
The hotel will be available to us all weekend, but the program will take place on
Saturday, only. The speaker list is being finalized, and I will make that information
available soon. The ExComms of the Local Groups should urge promising members to attend.
Afterwards, it is likely that you will find several of us hammering crabs at a local
establishment, followed by a chance for discussions back at the hotel. If Delaware is
too far, we will be looking for a venue in Virginia for 2005, affording most groups the
opportunity to drive less than 3 hours for an LDW.
ProxyQuest is proceeding very well. We have achieved over half our goal in January,
and we are still in Phase I. Your membership renewal application will contain a postcard
to be mailed back, and the website will request your proxy, should you try to renew online.
Vote YES, and we will be able to continue business as usual. Online renewal is almost too
easy, and saves time and postage. Just set your browser to:
us.mensa.org/member_resources/prerenewalform.php and follow the directions.
I would like to attend local events and meet the membership. The newsletters have
several events listed that appear interesting, and there might be time to attend some
of them, now that the thumb has been lifted, so to speak. Let me know, and I will make
the effort. Personally, I have started an event called “Prix Fixe’ing” as a dine-around
for my local group, MWM.
Well, the Patriots will be playing in the Super Bowl, so I probably should run out and
get the red, white, and blue greasepaint, and get ready. Wonders never cease.
