Membership renewal is well underway. As a result, ProxyQuest is nearing its goal. The predictions that I have heard, is that we will be complete by the time that you read this column. If so, then the sound of champagne corks popping, was the AMC celebrating the fact that American Mensa has done an excellent job, exceeding even the most optimistic of the projections. That is one thing that I have come to expect, Mensans caring about Mensans, and making that extra effort. It is the end of February, and we are at 87% of goal, so we are almost there. I will be as happy to discontinue sending you reminder emails, as you will be to stop getting them. As far as who is the winner in this, we are all the winners, for we can go back to business as usual.
The LDW planning is in full swing. It WILL be held at the Avenue Inn in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware on May 8th. The plan is for no attendance fee, in order to encourage attendance, and please register early, for attendance will be limited. The AMC Chair, Jean Becker, a member of the National Office Staff, and other local past and present local officers will be presenting. It is a serious event, for the purpose is learning, but we are providing time before and after for networking, and it is a great getaway spot, so that we can focus on the business at hand. For particulars, please consult your ExComm, due to constraints we might have to limit attendance, and their recommendations will take precedence. So, please register early, so that we can make our decisions. A flyer has been distributed to your ExComm, and they should make it available to you, as well as the information being available on the Region 2 website.
By the way, the rumors were true, we had a great time at Hearts Afire. 200 attendees is fantastic for an RG of this scale, and MWM should be congratulated on their efforts. The RG was an excellent time, not that I am biased or anything, it being my local group. Hospitality was well run, there was an excellent program, and I’ve never seen that high an attendance at an off-site event, the trip to the brand new Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Museum. A more then Cleveland Clap for the RG committee. I won’t mention any names, since I might be remiss and slight someone.
March contains Snowball in Piscataway, NJ, a popular event, and the Thomas Jefferson RG in Charlottesville, VA. I know that I’ve enjoyed all my previous Snowballs (going back a few years) and I know that Charlottesville is throwing a great party. Region 2 is known for having their RGs clustered in the fall and winter, so we will have a respite. I know the Liberty Bell is on once again, and I am confident that Thomas Jefferson will be successful in bringing off yet another successful RG. Beyond that, let me know. Due to some miscommunication, it was determined that Pow Owl Camp will not be an RG, so it is no longer being advertised as one.
This month’s column is short. See you next month.
