Marc My Words - September 2006
by Marc Lederman, RVC Region 2

By the time you read this, the World Gathering (WG) will be over. Since I'm writing this column before I leave, you'll have to wait till next month to read my recap. If you can't wait until next month, please join us in discussing the WG and the AMC meeting on our Region 2 Yahoo Group, and you can join by going directly to the website or sending an email to AML-Region2-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

The next Mensa Foundation Scholarship Program soon will be underway. Selena Updegraff has been reappointed as our Regional Scholarship Chair. At least seven of our groups will be participating. If you would like to get involved in the judging, please contact your Local Scholarship Chair or Selena for more information.

Mensa Testing Day (formerly known as National Testing Day) is being held on October 21, and I'm pleased to announce that once again all ten groups in our region are participating. Thank you to all the Testing Coordinators, Proctor Coordinators, and Proctors who help make this event a big success.

If you're looking for something to do Labor Day weekend, you might want to check out Western Pennsylvania Mensa's Rivers 3 RG in Pittsburgh. Their theme is "Food Glorious Food." Join them as they explore the endless possibilities of food eating it, preparing it, and analyzing it.

Our Region's fall RG season will kick off with Delaware Valley Mensa's Liberty Bell XVI. Head over to King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, October 13-15, and go "Back and Forth in Time." DVM gives a nod to the various Dr. Whos over the years, and blinks a little at Friday the 13th. DVM truly believes that decades-old Mensa tradition of "old friends newly met." Join this friendly crowd for some great speakers, a singles speed dating event, a Gen X/Y get-together, and the great Games Room. Relax among friends and new acquaintances in hospitality. Join in the annual Trivia Wizard contest, the annual Hat and Costume Contests, and bring your home-made treats to compete in the bake-off, or taste the winning entries. DVMers are a friendly and creative crowd, so there are always great surprises. Programs Organizer Pat Horsley welcomes you to contact her with questions about the contests.

In November, we'll be going back in time once again. Tidewater and Richmond Mensa welcome you to join them in Williamsburg, Virginia, November 10 - 12, for Mensalot. Mensalot has something for everyone, local tours of the Colonial Williamsburg area, tons of shopping at the local factory outlets, Busch Gardens, and for the thirsty, Budweiser Brewery! They have speakers, continuous hospitality and beverages, areas for puzzles, games, and sudoku, and probably the best of all--,little places where one can just relax, hang out, and enjoy the interactions and companionship with other Mensans. The (soon to be) world-renowned play Mensalot will cap off a HUGE banquet set in Medieval times, a feast to be remembered, with any and all attendees coming in period attire!! They have a jester, swordsmen, ladies in waiting, Lords (some leaping), serfs and surfettes, a magician, and re-enactors from a local troupe of renaissance players.

In December, Central Pennsylvania Mensa invites you to join them in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, December 15 - 17, for Winter Solstice. This RG is a relaxing affair in the outlet store capital of Amish Country. You can meet world-renowned Mensans and local friends, old-timers and first-timers, and enjoy the fun bits like the $10 gift exchange, pool party, chocolate orgy, games room, banquet, and more.
